Singer Grimes has released a new song in response to the intense media frenzy surrounding her recent split from SpaceX founder Elon Musk -her partner of three years.
Grimes, real name Claire Boucher, posted the song, titled LOVE, to Instagram on Thursday and explained she wrote and produced the song in a week "in response to all the privacy invasion, bad press, online hate and harassment by paparazzis I've experienced".
She included the song lyrics in her post:
"It f**king sucks to be awake/Oh Lord I pray my soul to take/nobody understands because everything they hate is everything I love," she sings in the song. "Every night I tell myself I'd rather die than heed ur rage… Go on and say it !"
In the accompanying video, Grimes shows off a lightsaber and long nails as she sings: "When you hate me… think it fixes you to break me?/I'll never fight you back because everything you hate is everything I LOVE."
The song is currently only available on Grimes' Instagram page, Billboard reports.
Billionaire inventor Musk confirmed he and the singer had broken up after dating for three years in a statement to Page Six on 24 September, and explained they are still living together and co-parenting their 1-year-old son, X Æ A-12, who they call X.
"We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms," Musk told the outlet. "It's mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas, and her work is primarily in L.A. She's staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room."
