Liam Payne has called off his engagement to Maya Henry.

The former couple was first linked back in 2018, shortly after his split from ex Cheryl, and the duo moved in together in lockdown after the singer popped the question.

However, Liam has confirmed he and Maya have gone their separate ways telling Steven Barlett on his Diary of a CEO podcast that he needed to "work on himself" and felt upset at "hurting people".

"I feel like more than anything at this point, I'm more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people," explained the former One Direction star. "That annoys me. I've just not been very good at relationships.

"And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships at this point. I'm just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else."

The Strip That Down star added: "That's what happened with my last relationship. I just wasn't giving a very good version of me anymore. I feel better out of it.

"I didn't feel good doing what I did but it had to happen. Just a corny way to say it was the best for us both. I hope she's happy."

Liam, who has son Bear, three, with Cheryl, confirmed his engagement to Maya in August 2020.
