Anne Hathaway has shared her thoughts over the 2019 Academy Awards having no host for the first time.

The Ocean’s 8 actress made an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Thursday night with her Serenity co-star Matthew McConaughey, and during the interview, Andy asked her about the upcoming Oscars and reports that next month’s ceremony won’t have a host after Kevin Hart decided to pull out following a controversy over old Twitter messages.

In response, Anne commented: “Sometimes it’s better to go with no host than force something that’s just not working.”

Her words appeared to allude to the time she co-hosted the Academy Awards with James Franco in 2011, with the pair receiving criticism over their lack of chemistry.

Elsewhere in the interview, Anne was also asked about whether she is still keen on making a third The Princess Diaries film, having starred alongside Julie Andrews in the 2001 coming-of-age flick and its 2004 sequel.

“There is a script for the third movie. There is a script. I want to do it. Julie wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen,” the 36-year-old said, adding that since original director Garry Marshall died in 2016, they want to be sure to do the popular films justice. “It’s just we don’t want to unless it’s perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it.”

And during a round of Plead the Fifth, Andy also asked Anne a tricky question regarding who she would pick to save if she was stranded in a lifeboat with Julie and her The Devil Wears Prada co-star Meryl Streep.

Of course, the star gave a very considered answer.

“I’m going to make the choice that I think the person who gets booted off the lifeboat would make. Meryl Streep is a very strong swimmer. I’m going to keep Julie Andrews on the boat,” she smiled.
