Zac Efron has been forced into a six-day lockdown following an outbreak of coronavirus in South Australia.

The 33-year-old actor is currently in the region while shooting his upcoming Stan original movie Gold, but production could be halted when the lockdown comes into effect at midnight on Wednesday.

The new rules will see all schools, restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and universities close, with exercising outside of the home banned and face masks mandatory while out in public.

"We continue to face our biggest test to date. We are going hard and we are going early. Time is of the essence," said South Australian Premier Steven Marshall in a statement.

Zac jetted into Adelaide earlier this month and has been spotted out and about on several occasions since arriving for shooting on the movie, which has been described as "a tense thriller about greed and the length people go to secure their property."
