Take That star Gary Barlow almost made it big in Hollywood – before his big screen debut was cut at the last minute.

The Pray singer appeared on former bandmate Robbie Williams' wife Ayda Field's Postcards from the Edge podcast, during which he revealed he was due to showcase his vocal skills in a scene of the 2017 film Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

"We get a call from Star Wars saying, "We've got a part for Gary in the next movie. There's a bar and we would need a singer, and he would be in the film', and I couldn't speak," the hitmaker shared.

However, the offer was seemingly too good to be true, as Gary lamented: "About a week before shooting, they came back saying, "We're really sorry but the storyline has changed and it's now going to be an alien'."

The role wouldn't be the Shine star's first foray into acting – he featured in a 2000 episode of U.K. TV drama Heartbeat, and also played himself in the 2012 British comedy flick, Keith Lemon: The Film.

Gary wasn't the only star tapped for the blockbuster, with British royals Prince William and Prince Harry both donning stormtrooper outfits for scenes in the science fiction movie.
