Jada Pinkett Smith has confessed to having an affair with rapper August Alsina during a secret separation from husband Will Smith.

The actress came clean during a tell-all interview on her Facebook Watch show, Red Table Talk, explaining she developed a friendship with August four years ago, while she and Will were experiencing marriage troubles.

Jada revealed she and Will met August through their son Jaden, reminding her husband, "It all started with him just needing some help, me wanting to help his health, his mental state. The outpouring for him from our family was initially about his health. We found all those different resources to help pull him through and from there you and I were going through a very difficult time."

Will added, "I was done with you," prompting his wife to reveal they had agreed to separate.

The Men in Black star then asked, "And then what did you do, Jada?"

"As time went on, I got into a different type of entanglement with August," she confessed. "It was a relationship, absolutely. I was in a lot of pain, I was very broken. I just wanted to feel good. It had been so long since I felt good."

A representative for Pinkett Smith previously shot down Alsina's claims he romanced the actress.

He told New York radio personality Angela Yee he personally received Will Smith's OK, adding, "Due to the transformation from their marriage to (a) life partnership that they spoken on several times, and not involving romanticism, he gave me his blessing (sic).

"I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life. I truly and really, really deeply loved, and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it. So much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody. I really loved the person that I experienced that (with) and know what (that feels) like – if some people never get that in this lifetime."

But the Girls Trip star's spokesperson dismissed the secret romance tale, telling the New York Post the claims were "absolutely not true".

The Smiths insist Jada's fling helped them get to a better place in their relationship, with the actress adding, "For me, this was years ago… We have really gotten to that new place of unconditional love."
