Brad Pitt's topless scene in Quentin Tarantino's 2019 movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was the star's idea.

Pitt scooped numerous Best Supporting Actor prizes for his performance in the flick earlier this year, including a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award.

One of the most recognizable scenes from the movie, thanks to numerous online memes, is one in which the star removes his Hawaiian shirt and his undershirt in one swift movement – which Tarantino revealed was all the star's idea.

He told the 3 Girls, 1 Keith podcast: "You know, so it's like uh, um, I go, "Okay, so I'm thinking maybe like, you know, okay, you unbutton, you unbutton the Hawaiian shirt, and peel that off.

"And then peel off the champion T-shirt." And he's like, "Really? Want me to go through all that button bullshit? I just, I just take it off in one big go.'"

The 57-year-old filmmaker went on to compare the scene to "homoerotica", adding: "Wow, this is actually the closest to homoerotica I've ever filmed… This is a, this is very Joe Gage. Alright?"

He mused: "Very 1970's uh, uh, a handyman guy in the roof."
