Elton John has opened up about having to learn to walk again after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer.

The Rocket Man hitmaker suffered a major infection following the operation two years ago and, speaking to British talk show host Graham Norton on the BBC documentary Elton John: Uncensored, he joked he’s “like The Bionic Woman”, because “there are very few bits of me left!”

“I literally had to learn to walk again. I was extremely sick,” the musician revealed. “Luckily I survived it. Now I am fine.”

He continued: “There is no hair, a pacemaker, there is no tonsils, there is no prostate, there is no appendix. I have had kidney stones…”

Writing about his run-in with the illness in his memoir Me: Elton John, which dropped last month, the star confessed his sickness left him fearing he would not live to see his children – sons Elijah, six, and Zachary, eight – grow up.

Explaining he did a Las Vegas show in a lot of pain after the operation, he added he thought: “Don’t let me die, I want to see my children grow up.”

Elton shares his kids with husband David Furnish.

The program about the star, who is currently on the road with his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, airs 28 November.
