Taylor Swift was left laughing after her fans mistakenly thought she was involved with Avengers: Endgame.

The 29-year-old singer is known for leaving Easter eggs (clues about upcoming projects) in her singles and music videos and, while fans often correctly guess what the star's working on, they sometimes get it spectacularly wrong.

Asked about the funniest rumours she's heard during an interview on Wednesday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Taylor replied: "There were some fans who thought I had something to do with Avengers: Endgame. Which I would have loved to have been asked but I wasn't asked to be in it at all. Because we had the single coming out the same day and I have a song that was called Endgame, so they were like, "Oh my God, she's gonna defeat Thanos' (Avengers villain). I let everyone down" again."

Taylor admitted, however, that she is consistently impressed with how many fans correctly figure out the clues.

"It's been really fun to expand the musical experience past just listening to a song. I also want people to be watching a music video and go, "What's that thing in the background? And what's that song playing underneath there? And is there a reason she said that in French?'" she explained. "They're excellent at figuring that out."

When asked by Ellen if there's a reason she speaks French in her new video ME!, Taylor smiled: "Yeah, definitely!"

The Reputation singer's appearance on the show marked her first talk show appearance in two years, as she returns to music with her upcoming seventh studio album.

The multi-talented star also spoke about her appearance in upcoming movie Cats, and admitted she took advantage of the "cat school" on set on more than one occasion.

"All my dreams came true on the set of this film," she gushed. "They were like, "You can come to set as much as you want'. And I ended up being there every day for four months. They're all like, "Oh Taylor's doing cat school again" again. She's still here, she's still doing cat school.'

"You crawl around on the floor and pretend to be a cat. I had the most fun – I had the best time."
