Richard Gere's wife Alejandra Silva has confirmed they are expecting their first child.

The Pretty Woman star and Alejandra wed in April and earlier this summer rumors suggesting the couple was expecting its first child swirled. Richard and Alejandra stayed mum on the reports, but on Sunday she announced the happy news.

"A very special moment just a few minutes ago… Getting blessings for our precious to come.. we couldn't announce it before telling HH Dalai Lama," Silva wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of the Buddhist leader offering a blessing to the couple.

The child will be Richard's second – he has an 18-year-old son, called Homer, from his marriage to model and actress Carey Lowell, which ended in 2013 after 11 years. Alejandra also has a child, a son named Albert, from her marriage to Govind Friedland.

The Pretty Woman star, who turned 69 in August, married the Spanish publicist and activist, 35, at the actor's ranch outside New York City in April.

"I'm the happiest man in the universe," he told Hello! magazine after the nuptials. "How could I not be? I'm married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, (and) committed to helping people, who's fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who's a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!"

The couple was introduced by a mutual friend when the Chicago actor stayed at Alejandra's family-owned hotel in Positano, Italy, in 2014. They reportedly became engaged in November.
