A seriously ill Drake fan who hit headlines after being visited by the rapper last week has received a new heart.

Sofia Sanchez, 11, went viral on social media earlier this month after sharing a video of herself taking part in the Canadian rapper’s In My Feelings dance craze and speaking of her birthday wish to meet her idol. It garnered the attention of Drake himself, who later took time out of his North American Aubrey and the Three Migos Tour to visit Sofia in the Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago shortly after she underwent open-heart surgery while awaiting a full transplant.

On Monday, a video posted to Sanchez’s Instagram account confirmed the young fan’s second birthday wish had come true as the family revealed she had finally received the heart transplant they had been waiting for.

“My birthday wish… did happen, well one of them did. To meet Drake and that one did happen and it was great. And my other wish is to get a heart,” Sofia, who suffers from a heart muscle condition called cardiomyopathy, can be heard saying in the footage, before her mother interrupts: “Well guess what? It happened. Today you’re getting a heart!”

Sofia then covers her mouth in shock and starts to cry, adding: “I’m getting a heart mom, oh my god!”

Later in the day, a statement posted to Sofia’s GoFundMe page confirmed that she was out of surgery and in recovery.

“Sofia is out of surgery! Surgery went well,” it read. “She received a really good, strong heart. They will keep her asleep for the remainder of the night. Thank you for your prayers. God is good.”

After meeting the brave youngster earlier this month, the God’s Plan hitmaker took to Instagram to share a picture of the pair together and wish her well in her recovery. And he was clearly keeping up with her progress as he celebrated the happy news with the family on Monday.

“Yessssss!!!!!!!” he gushed in the comments section of the video. “My love, so happy for you.”
