Adele has gone public with her support for a pal who is recovering from postpartum psychosis.

Laura Dockrill, whose six-month-old baby is Adele's godson, has opened up about her health battle in a piece for a parenting blog, revealing her problems led to hallucinations and confusion soon after giving birth.

Posting a photo of herself with her best friend on Instagram, Adele calls her pal's story "intimate and heartbreaking", while sharing a link to Dockrill's article.

The singer writes: "This is my best friend. We have been friends for more of our lives than we haven't. She had my beautiful godson 6 months ago and it was the biggest challenge of her life in more ways than one.

"She has written the most intimate, witty, heartbreaking and articulate piece about her experience of becoming a new mum and being diagnosed with postpartum psychosis. Mamas talk about how you're feeling because in some cases it could save yours or someone else's life."

Adele's song My Same is about her pal, Laura, who also opens up about her skin issues and anxiety problems in the article, and reveals she once accused her husband of kidnapping their baby.

She was eventually hospitalized and is now taking medication and psychotherapy classes.

Both Adele and her friend have been applauded for bringing attention to postpartum psychosis by charity bosses in the U.K.

Vivien Waterfield from Home Start tells BBC Newsbeat, "We think that it's often very difficult for mums to talk about the difficulties they're having. Anyone in the public eye brave enough to talk about this publicly helps mums realize they are not alone."
