Lea Michele pleaded with boyfriend Zandy Reich to “stop joking around” when he proposed to her last weekend.

The former Glee star announced her engagement on Instagram on Saturday, sharing a picture of her showing off a stunning diamond ring after saying Yes to fashion executive Zandy.

However, during an appearance on U.S. TV show Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday night, Lea admitted she was stunned when her beau dropped to one knee while they were in the Hamptons.

“I was so surprised I said “stop joking around stop joking around’,” Lea admitted. Of her four-carat diamond ring, Lea added “it’s so great” but laughed that she’s having to get used to wearing it.

“I keep feeling like it’s borrowed and I’ll have to give it back at some point,” she giggled.

Lea and Zandy went public with their relationship last summer. She previously dated Matthew Paetz from 2014 to 2016 but in 2015 she revealed she had to heal herself after the tragic death of her actor boyfriend Cory Monteith in 2013 before she could even think about getting into a new relationship.

Elsewhere in the Watch What Happens Live interview, Lea was asked by a caller what she made of the online conspiracy theory that she’s illiterate.

Explaining the situation to host Andy Cohen and fellow guest Bethenny Frankel, Lea said: “I woke up one day, and all of a sudden online, someone had made a conspiracy video ” a 45 minute video ” trying to prove I can’t read or write.

“Not only do I have to memorise pages and pages” they said that (Glee creator) Ryan Murphy would have to read the lines to me. Ryan called me and was like, “Do people think I have the time to do this?’ I got accepted to NYU (New York University), I mean, it’s the most bizarre thing that’s ever happened in my life.”

Asked by Andy what the theorist’s “proof” was, Lea laughed: “The proof was when I go on book signings that I’d be signing my name but I wouldn’t actually be writing it, I’d be just posed (with the pen). It was that and that my signature was sloppy””
