Reese Witherspoon didn't realise she had been flaunting Oprah Winfrey's set rules when they were filming A Wrinkle in Time.
The Oscar-winning actress appears in Ava DuVernay's fantasy-adventure film alongside the superstar, with the women portraying the characters of Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Which, respectively.
In a recent TV interview, Oprah spoke about her "intense dislike" of chewing gum and how it bothered her when her co-star chewed it in her trailer, and Reese has now shared how stunned she was to learn of her pal's phobia.
"One day I walking on the set and I was chewing gum because I had coffee breath or something," she recalled during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night. "And I was like, 'Hey what's up? Are you excited about this scene?' She was like, 'Are you chewing gum?' And I was like, 'Yeah.' She's like, 'No one chews gum around me.'"
But the chewing gum incident wasn't the only time Reese had unknowingly irritated Oprah. The star likes to play music while she's preparing for scenes, but later learned that her colleague prefers to keep her space a lot more subdued.
"Nobody gave me the Oprah rules, so when she walked into the hair and make-up trailer on the first day, I'm playing music, I've got Sam Cooke playing, and I'm like, 'Hey y'all,'" the 41-year-old said, adding: "Then I heard from her assistant three days later, (who said), 'Oprah likes silence in the trailer.' And I was like, 'Oh shoot!'"
During Reese's interview, host Stephen invited U.S. Olympian Adam Rippon to the stage. The figure skater is a long-time fan of the actress and the pair immediately hit it off.
"This is meant to be. This is the relationship the world's been waiting for," she laughed, while Adam added: "I think when I watched Legally Blonde. That was it, that's when I fell in love."
