Jim Carrey recently gave a bizarre existential interview at a New York Fashion Week party in which he declared "there is no me" and "we don't matter".

The Bruce Almighty star made an unlikely appearance at the Harper's Bazaar Celebrates ICONS By Carine Roitfeld party in the Big Apple on Friday and gave E! News reporter Catt Sadler a challenging interview.

As he walked up to her on the carpet, he begun circling around her while staring at her intensely before declaring there was no point to the event he was attending.

"There's no meaning to any of this," the 55-year-old said. "So I wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join and here I am. You've gotta admit it's completely meaningless."

When Catt explained that they are celebrating icons, he responded, "Celebrating icons? Boy, that is just the absolute lowest-aiming, you know, possibility that we could come up with. It's like, icons, do you believe in icons? I don't believe in personalities, I don't believe that you exist, but there is a wonderful fragrance in the air."

When she points out that he is an icon himself, he bursts into an odd James Brown impression, before paraphrasing a commencement speech he gave Maharishi University of Management in Iowa in 2014 when he collected an honorary doctorate for his achievements in the arts.

"I believe that peace lies beyond personality, beyond invention and disguise, beyond the red 'S' you wear on your chest, that makes bullets bounce off. I believe that it's deeper than that. I believe that we are a field of energy dancing for itself. And I don't care," he said.

Catt then noted that he got dressed up for the occasion, wearing a funky marbled blue and black tuxedo jacket, and he added, "I didn't get dressed up… There is no me. There's just things happening. There are clusters of tetrahedrons moving around together."

The reporter than challenged him, asking what he made of all the current events happening in the world, and he continued declaring it was not "our world" and none of it was real, saying, "Nope. We don't matter."

Catt, who frequently shot odd looks to the camera during the interview, took to Twitter afterwards to insist she was still a fan. She added, "Thank you for the unexpected dance Mr. Carrey!"
